Enjoy Summer Safely

July 10, 2020

We’re supporting the government’s new Enjoy Summer Safely campaign. Now that lockdown is easing for most of us, it’s time to start going out and about.

Make the most of the long summer days. Go and visit your favourite restaurants or shops and get back to all the activities that you love. Here are a few tips for you on how to do this safely so that we can all stay protected.

Social distancing

Follow the government guidelines on Staying safe outside of your home. Avoid close contact with anyone you don’t live with or who’s not in your support bubble. Even inside other people’s homes. Keeping apart keeps us safe. Check out Staying alert and safe (social distancing) from 4 July onwards.

Handwashing

Keep washing your hands regularly and especially when you get home. Wash them with soap and water for around 20 seconds, then make sure you dry them properly.

When you’re outside, use hand sanitiser. This is really important when you enter a building and after you’ve had contact with any surfaces.

Face coverings

Use a face covering when you’re out. It’s essential to wear this:

  • On public transport
  • When you go to a hospital appointment or visit someone in hospital.

But if you can, try to also wear it in shops or in areas where you’ll be around other people.
The only groups who should avoid wearing a face covering are children under 3 or anyone who has breathing difficulties.

Test and trace

If you think you’ve got any symptoms, get tested and stay at home. Find out how to get tested at nhs.uk/coronavirus or call 119.

Self-isolate for 14 days if you’re told you have the virus. Also do this if you’ve been exposed to an infected person.

Surface cleaning

Remember to regularly clean surfaces which you’re touching a lot like door handles, handrails, and tabletops. You can use products like bleach or detergent, as these will kill the virus and keep your surfaces clean.

If someone has suspected Coronavirus, then cleaning surfaces will reduce the chance of passing it onto other people.

  • Clean all surfaces.
  • Wear disposable or washing up gloves and aprons and use disposable cloths for cleaning.
  • For more cleaning advice, see Covid 19: cleaning in non-healthcare settings

By following these steps, we can look forward to enjoying the rest of summer while staying safe.
