Say hello to Google Pixel 8a

The new Google Pixel 8a has landed. The latest entry into the Google Pixel 8 series is designed to give you all the benefits of Google’s new flagship phones, but at a more affordable price. 

And the great news is that the specs really stand up. Pixel 8a still packs in an awesome camera, and, crucially, Google’s Tensor G3 processor – and that’s what powers all the exciting new Google AI features.

So let’s dive in and see what Google’s latest phone can do.  

Let’s start with look and feel. Pixel 8a is slightly smaller than the Google Pixel 8 with a 6.1-inch high-resolution OLED Actua display. The screen has a 120Hz refresh rate to keep games and video flowing smoothly and 2,000 nits of brightness to keep everything clear and colourful.

The phone is housed in an aluminium case, with a Corning® Gorilla® Glass 3 screen to protect it from scratches, scrapes, and other marks. It’s available in a bunch of beautiful colours including Obsidian (black), Porcelain (white), and Bay (light blue).

Google Pixel 8a’s rear camera has 64MP wide and 13MP ultra-wide lenses, with a 13MP front selfie camera. That’s closer in spec to the Google Pixel 7a than the Pixel 8, but the new Pixel 8a comes with built-in Google AI to seriously transform your snaps.

You can fix blurry images with Photo Unblur. Remove shadows and improve the lighting on portraits with Portrait Light. Magic Eraser is amazing because you can remove anything you don’t want to appear in your photo, and you can edit unwanted noise out of video too.

But our favourite is Best Take. Ever taken a group shot where someone is blinking, or someone looks away? Best Take allows you to combine all the best bits of multiple frames, so you can create one perfect image.

There’s Circle to Search, which lets you circle anything on screen – words and pictures – with your finger to do an instant Google search. See an event that looks awesome, circle, search, and grab tickets. See a mouth-watering food pic then circle and search to see who serves it nearby, and how you can cook it. 

Live Translate is an incredible feature that breaks the language barrier by giving you instant translations when you speak to someone on the phone. It can also translate your texts as well as signs, menus, and more when you’re on your travels. 

Pixel 8a comes with the powerful Google Tensor G3, which is the same chip that’s in the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro – so there’s no compromise here on performance.

The power of Tensor G3 is essential for running Google’s suite of AI apps and features. And it also runs Google Gemini. Gemini is Google’s AI assistant which can interact with all your apps and promises to super-charge your productivity by helping you out with all sorts of daily tasks.
