Google Pixel 8a vs Pixel 7a: How do they compare?

Google’s new phone, the Google Pixel 8a, has just been released. It’s part of the Google 8 series phones, and designed to be a lower cost alternative to the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro. Google did a similar thing when it released the Google 7a as a more affordable addition its Pixel 7 series devices.

So if you’re looking for a great value handset, with great specs, then both the Google Pixel 7a and the Google Pixel 8a are great options to choose from. But which should you pick?  

Many of the key specs between the Google Pixel 8a and Google Pixel 7a are similar. But there are several key upgrades to Pixel 8a’s hardware, notably the upgraded Tensor G3 chip, which unlocks a whole world of AI features.

On the specs alone, there isn’t anything to divide the Pixel 8a and 7a cameras. Both have a 64MP wide camera and 12MP ultrawide camera on the rear, with a 13MP camera on front.

Both phones can also make use of incredible photo editing tools, like Magic Eraser – which removes anything you don’t want in your photo – and Photo Unblur. But only 8a currently has Best Take, which allows you to choose the best parts of multiple frames and bring them together to create a single perfect pic. 

Google Pixel 8a is built with the latest Google Tensor G3 processor, giving it the edge over 7a’s Tensor G2 processor.

The Pixel 8a, however, has a 4,492mAh battery, while 7a has a 4385mAh battery, so you should expect the 8a to last a bit longer.

Both the Pixel 8a and Pixel 7a offer you the chance to enjoy high-end specs and great Google features without you having to spend top dollar.

With the enhanced specs – especially the new Tensor G3 processor – the Pixel 8a is worth the extra investment, as it puts you in a great place to enjoy all the latest AI updates.

But Google Pixel 7a is still a great choice, and gives you the same great camera setup and excellent screen and battery. But it might not work as seamlessly with future AI updates and features like Google Gemini.
