Introducing the new Google Pixel Fold
June 23, 2023
It’s here. Google’s answer to the foldable phone, the Pixel Fold, has arrived. And it’s everything we hoped it might be and more.
Before the launch on 27 June, here’s everything you need to know about Google’s first foldable.
Google Pixel Fold Design
At first glance, the Pixel Fold is not as bulky as you’d maybe expect a foldable device to be. When folded, it fits easily in your pocket. And when unfolded, it lies perfectly flat – going the full 180 degrees, despite what some rumours might have you believe. And if you’re worried about the hinge wearing out, you can rest easy, knowing that it’s been tested and is good for 200,000 folds and unfolds.
The FHD+ OLED cover display measures in at 5.8in and is super-hard wearing Gorilla Glass Victus – the toughest Gorilla Glass yet. And the 7.8in inner display uses ultra-thin glass. It has an IPX8 water resistance rating too, so can take a splash.
Staying true to the sleek, sophisticated theme, Pixel Fold comes in 2 grown-up colours: porcelain and obsidian.
The best camera on a foldable phone
There was some speculation around what camera set-up Google was going to go for on the Pixel Fold, with online rumours hinting that it’d be below par. Luckily, that’s not the case.
Pixel Fold’s triple rear camera lets you really explore your creativity. Here’s how:
- The 10.8MP ultra-wide lens lets you get more of the landscape into your shot.
- The 48MP main lens has a super-fast and sharp f/1.7 aperture – ideal for low-light photography and Night Sight shots.
- 10MP telephoto lens – with 5x optical zoom and up to 20x Super Res zoom, Pixel Fold lets you get up close and personal with your subjects, even from far away.
Want to up your selfie game? With Pixel Fold’s unique design, you can. Unfold your phone, frame yourself with the front display, and take your best selfies yet with the rear camera.
There are other camera modes to play with, too. Like Tabletop – use this mode for hands-free group shots or timelapse videos. Set a timer and jump in the shot. Or say, “Hey Google, take a photo”.
And Astro Photography Tabletop – astrophotography without a tripod. Put your Pixel Fold down and snap hands-free photos of the night sky.
Google Tensor G2
Powered by Google Tensor G2 – the processor made for Pixel, the Pixel Fold is fast and secure. It’s designed to improve Pixel’s performance and efficiency, which makes for better battery life. In fact, the 4,821mAh battery lasts all day. But turn on Extreme Battery Saver and get up to 72 hours. It’ll learn your favourite apps, so it won’t waste power on the ones you don’t use as often.
The Tensor G2 chip also makes the continuity between screens seamless. So, if you’re watching a video on the outer display then open your Pixel Fold , the video moves smoothly to the inner display. And maintains that amazing video quality throughout.
Add the UK’s Fastest 5G Network and you’ve got a super-fast, efficient phone that makes multitasking a breeze.
