What’s a Lenovo?

Lenovo might not be a household name in the smartphone arena – yet – but it does hold the coveted title of world’s largest PC maker. But the brand also wants to conquer the mobile world and its latest launch, the Lenovo P2 (which debuted in early 2017), is set to make that one step closer to reality.

Quick history lesson: Lenovo is a Chinese multinational tech company that was founded in Beijing in 1984, which had its first success story when it launched a circuit board that allowed IBM-compatible personal computers to process Chinese characters. It later acquired IBM’s personal computing business in 2005 (including ThinkPads), before entering the world of smartphones in 2012, propelling itself to become the largest vendor of smartphones in China.

But it was the acquisition of Motorola Mobility from Google –  for the tidy sum of $2.91 billion – in 2014 that propelled the brand onto the North American stage… and into serious mobile phone territory.

So, that’s the background for you. And here’s the current news: Lenovo’s latest phone, the P2, is quickly becoming known for one, very important, thing: amazing battery life.

The phone’s freakshake-sized 5,100 mAh battery, in a phablet-sized 5.5-inch screen, can make it through three days’ of selfies, Snapchats, video streaming, emailing, music listening, fitness tracker syncing and so much more. 

That’s 78.69 hours of talk time, with 32 days of standby time. We heart.

Even though the non-removable battery is big, the phone design is sleek rather than chunky, with a Full HD Super AMOLED display screen and high-powered Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 true octa-core processor with 2.0 GHz and 3GB and 4GB RAM options.

It’s also got a 13-MP rear camera with LED flash, front-facing fingerprint scanner, supports 24W rapid charging and boasts a one-key power saver which lets you save battery with just one flick.

And Lenovo’s not done innovating yet: at CES 2017, the brand unveiled some exciting new products, including VR compatible laptops designed for gaming obsessives, a VR headset in conjunction with Windows and a stylish Smart Assistant powered by Amazon Alexa.
