Mobile connectivity has radically changed the way we work. Explore how it can energise your business.

Three Business blog mobile technology creates happier employees

In today’s fast-paced digital landscape, mobile connectivity has become a cornerstone for modern businesses. From enhancing remote working capabilities to fostering virtual networking, the impact of robust connectivity on business productivity and employee satisfaction cannot be overstated.

A new age of remote working: Enhancing productivity and satisfaction

Mobile connectivity has radically transformed the workplace, liberating employees from the confines of a traditional office. For employees, being better connected means better work-life balance. Employees and business owners are no longer being tied to an office desk, while offering them the opportunity to ‘claw back’ time to spend with families and friends.

Business leaders are acutely aware that having good technology allows workers to be more effective and enhance employee satisfaction. According to research by Three found that 29 per cent of small business owners worry that not having reliable technology will result in employee attrition – a concern that rises to 48 per cent among medium-sized businesses.

Virtual networking: Expanding business horizons

For growing businesses, taking a more holistic approach also offers scope to collaborate with other businesses that are more ‘virtual’ and driven by mobile connectivity.

"Connectivity empowers not only new business relationships, but allows employees to balance both their work and personal lives more successfully", says Snehal Bhudia, Director of Propositions and Marketing at Three Business – meaning teams no longer have to “live in the office”.

Seizing those new-won freedoms offered up by greater mobile connectivity can help business owners and workers to better balance their work and home life, for example by dealing with tasks while travelling. “You get some hours back,” says Bhudia, “and that helps with your quality of life.”

More flexibility, happier employees: Real life insights

The benefits of flexible working arrangements facilitated by mobile connectivity are evident. Using connectivity to allow employees flexibility has proven positive impact on our personal and professional life, says Lex Young, Head of Content and Campaigns at digital mental health provider Kooth. Kooth has two offices, in Manchester and London, and its staff are encouraged to work in ways that suit their needs, whether that be hybrid working or fully remote.

“I have three children and I’m almost two hours away from our office in Paddington,” she says. “Being able to work remotely means that the time I’d spend commuting is actually spent dropping my youngest off at school and picking her up at the end of her day.”

Yet, she also values occasional office visits for the in-person interaction that fuels her productivity for the week ahead. “That being said, I do love being in the office,” she adds. “I try to spend one day a week in London – the extrovert in me gets a lot from meeting others in real life and having informal chats about new projects. It fuels me for the rest of the week when I’m at home.”

Connecting further afield: The power of mobile connectivity

For Young, operating digitally enables Kooth to work with people across the country and from all walks of life. That ability to recruit from a wider geographical area and to be able to collaborate seamlessly with other ‘digital first’ organisations reflects the impact of the mobile, tech-led revolutions unfolding across the workplace.

“Business leaders are starting to realise they don’t need to put as much emphasis on a physical office location, as they once might have,” says Bhudia, who believes that businesses should think carefully before investing in bricks and mortar.

Businesses can reap many benefits of a physical office through virtual means, reducing costs significantly. Bhudia highlights “while there are still benefits of a physical office location, it can be very cost-intensive, whereas mobile connectivity allows you to reap a lot of the benefits of people being in the same physical space, but in a virtual way.”

The ongoing digital revolution allows businesses to adapt, thrive and – most importantly – keep employees and customers happy.

Businesses continue thriving with greater connectivity

The ongoing digital revolution, driven by mobile connectivity, empowers businesses to adapt, thrive, and maintain high levels of employee and customer satisfaction. Embracing this key technology is not just a trend but a strategic move towards a more flexible and efficient future.
