Roaming & calling abroad

How do I enable or disable roaming on my account?

To enable or disable roaming for your employees:

  1. Log in to your Three Business account
  2. Go to ‘Check your allowance’
  3. Select ‘International settings’
  4. Choose your preferences

For device-specific roaming help, see our Roaming settings support.

Can I pay for roaming before I travel?

Yes, with a Go Roam Pass, you can unlock your UK allowance for minutes, texts and data in our Go Roam destinations without incurring the daily roaming charge. Business customers can buy 3, 7, 14, 28 and 56-day Go Roam Passes with all business plans and eliminate the usual daily roaming fee. You will be charged upfront, and the Go Roam Pass will be available to use when travelling. Fair use policy applies, including a maximum of 12GB data per billing month.

What if I just want more data?

Get a Data Passport with unlimited data. Check the covered destinations before purchasing. For more details, see Go Roam.

Inadvertent roaming in Ireland

If you live near the Northern Irish border, you might connect to a Republic of Ireland network by mistake. To avoid extra charges, we've excluded the Republic of Ireland from our daily roaming charges and the 12GB fair use limit will not apply.

Are there data roaming spend limits?

Three have set up a worldwide data roaming limit of £45 per SIM (excluding VAT) to stop Customers spending too much. If you prefer, this limit can be removed by contacting us.

You’ll be notified if you reach 80% and 100% of this limit. Any spending on calls and texts will not go towards this cap.

If you have a Spend Cap on your account, this may stop you being able to use your phone abroad.

Find out more about Spend Caps, or contact us to increase your data roaming cap.

Why do you charge me to use my phone abroad?

Your contract covers the UK Three network. Using local networks at your destination abroad incurs charges from those networks.

How do I check my phone usage?

Log in or register to your Three Business account to monitor your roaming usage. You'll also receive a text when you reach 80% and 100% of your allowance. Please note that, when roaming, you are subject to our fair use policy, see more information here.

Can I call a work colleague while I’m abroad?

When in any of our Go Roam destinations you can use your allowance to contact a UK number (starting 01, 02, 03 or a standard UK mobile).

If you’re in a Go Roam in Europe destination, you can use your allowance to call and text back to the UK, a UK mobile or another Go Roam in Europe destination.

If you’re in a Go Roam Around the World or Go Roam Around the World Extra destination, only calls and texts back to the UK and to UK mobiles are included. Calls or texts to other international destinations are not.

This means that if you and a colleague go on work trips, either to the same destination or different ones, and you both have UK mobiles then no matter the Go Roam destination, it’s considered a UK mobile and is included.

We have troubleshooting guides available on our Device support pages to help you resolve the problem. Once you’re on the page, follow these steps:

  1. Select your device from the list
  2. Select the ‘Fix a problem’ tab
  3. Select the ‘Signal, calls, messaging, roaming or a SIM’ guide and follow the instructions

If you're still having issues, contact us to check roaming is enabled on your account.

How can I check my business voicemail while I'm abroad?

Follow these 2 simple steps:

  1. Dial +447782 333 123
  2. Enter your PIN, followed by #

Standard roaming charges apply for listening to voicemail messages or calling the Three Business team, unless you’ve unlocked your Go Roam allowance in a Go Roam destination, using minutes from that allowance or bought a Roaming Pass, in which case you’ll be charged according to those terms. Remember to make sure you know your PIN before you travel.

How do I contact Three Business while I’m away?

If you need to get in touch with us while you’re abroad, WhatsApp us, or chat with us online.

For all your options, see our contact us page.

How do I activate Go Roam?

Go Roam activates automatically when you arrive in a Go Roam destination and use your phone (either by making a call, text or using data – this includes your Apps working in the background). You'll receive a text with the roaming charges for that destination.

For specific charges, search for your destination on our roaming page.

What are the roaming fair use policies?

In Go Roam destinations, whether you pay a daily roaming charge (this is triggered automatically)  or buy a Go Roam Pass, your available usage abroad comes from your monthly UK allowance. If you have a UK data allowance greater than 12GB, you can use up to 12GB of data in a billing month in our Go Roam Destinations. If you use 12GB and still have remaining UK data allowance available, you can continue to use your data, but this is subject to a surcharge;  Within a billing month, both your usage in the UK and abroad will go towards your total usage i.e. if you have 20GB data and have already used 10GB in the UK, you’ll have 10GB to use abroad.

Go Roam in Europe

  • Calls and texts: Use your UK plan allowance for calls and texts within Go Roam in Europe destinations, or back to the UK.
  • Data: Up to 12GB per billing month from your UK allowance.  Surcharges apply if you go over this.

Go Roam Around the World and Go Roam Around the World Extra:

  • Calls and texts: Up to 5,000 texts and 3,000 minutes of calls to UK numbers each month.
  • Data: Up to 12GB per billing month from your UK allowance. Surcharges apply if you go over this.

For Enterprise Roaming plans, check your specific allowance details.

What if I’m travelling to a non-Go Roam destination?

In non-Go Roam destinations, you can't use your UK allowances. You'll be charged standard roaming rates per minute/text/MB of data, which vary by country. Use our Destination checker to find your costs.

How do Go Roam Passes work?

A Go Roam Pass activates on first use in a Go Roam destination, first use includes calls, texts, and any data usage, including background app updates. You can use it for the specified number of days, which don't need to be consecutive. Leftover days stay on your account for future trips.

You'll get a text when your pass is activated and another when it ends. Unused passes don't expire unless you change your plan, or upgrade. To see how many days left you have on a pass, log in to your Three Business account.

Can I buy more than one Go Roam pass?

Yes, you can buy multiple Go Roam Passes. They will be used in the order purchased if they are the same type.

You can also buy different types of passes. If you have both Go Roam in Europe and Go Roam Around the World passes, the Go Roam in Europe pass will be used first, if you are roaming in a Go Roam in Europe destination.

Is calling or texting to international numbers included in Go Roam plans?

In our Go Roam in Europe destinations, you can make calls both back to the UK and to other standard landline and mobile numbers in those Go Roam in Europe Destinations.

Our other plans do not include international calls or texts, only back to the UK and UK mobiles.  Surcharges will be applied if you ring/text any other type of number. Please see the destination tool for more pricing information.

I’m an Adapt customer - do I have to pay a daily Go Roam charge?

For Adapt plans:

  • No daily roaming charge for Go Roam in Europe destinations. Fair use policies still apply.

The same Daily Roaming Charges and fair use policies apply to all other destinations;

  • £5 daily charge to unlock your UK allowance for 24hours in Go Roam Around the World destinations. Includes VAT where applicable and is per SIM.
  • £7 daily charge to unlock your UK allowance for 24 hours in Go Roam Around the World Extra destinations. Includes VAT where applicable and is per SIM.

More information about roaming can be found on Working Abroad.

I’m visiting a destination that is now in Go Roam Around the World Extra with a daily roaming charge, when did this change and what does it mean?

Go Roam Around the World Extra launched on 26 June 2024.  This new band in our Go Roam product allows you to access your UK allowance* in 92 new destinations for a daily roaming charge of £7.

Prior to 26 June, 2024, you would have been charged £/p per MB, minute, text rates for those 92 destinations.

If you joined/upgraded before 1 October 2021 we won't apply this daily roaming charge and you will continue to pay the £/p per MB, minute, text rates.

What is a Data Passport and how does it work?

A Data Passport keeps you connected while travelling, and saves on roaming charges. It offers unlimited data in selected destinations for 24 hours from activation. This covers data usage only. Calls and texts are charged at standard roaming rates, which depending on the destination will either trigger a Go Roam daily roaming charge or cost £/p per minute/text. You can buy multiple Data Passports in advance.

How do I check if my device has a 4G Calling Abroad capability?

  1. Visit our Support pages and find your device
  2. Select your device, and then the 'Specification' tab
  3. Scroll down to "Network" and check for compatibility

Why is 4G Calling Abroad important?

As some roaming partners phase out 2G and 3G coverage, 4G Calling Abroad becomes crucial for connectivity worldwide. Without a 4G enabled device, you may face difficulties connecting in destinations where roaming partners support only 4G via VoLTE.

To ensure connection, you need a 4G device with 4G Calling Abroad enabled in your settings. Ensure your device has the latest software for optimal performance.

Are there any destinations that don’t support 3G right now?

Currently, all roaming destinations have at least one partner supporting 2G and 3G services. However, this may change soon, as many partners plan to phase out 2G and 3G to accommodate 4G and 5G. While we aim to have diverse partners in each destination, infrastructure plans are beyond our control. To ensure connectivity, consider upgrading to a device compatible with 4G Calling Abroad.

I don’t have a 4G Calling Abroad capable device, what should I do?

If your current device lacks 4G Calling Abroad capabilities and you want to upgrade to one that does, explore your upgrade options with us.

Troubleshooting Connection Issues Abroad:

If you're having trouble connecting abroad:

  • Most operators worldwide support 4G and 5G exclusively.
  • If you’re connected to 4G data but can't make/receive calls or texts:
    • Use web-based apps for calls/messages while on 4G.
    • Manually switch to the alternate provider (e.g., T-Mobile) for 2G connectivity, though coverage may be limited.

If you have no signal:

  • If in a suitable coverage area, manually switch to the alternate provider for 2G connectivity, though coverage may be limited.

What do I do if there’s a disaster while I’m abroad?

If you’re caught in a natural disaster or international emergency while roaming abroad, please get in touch to see how we can support you.

Please note that we may have already taken action if it’s a widely known event.
